Native American Lecture: "The Doctrine of Discovery and the Conquest of the Americas"

 Elmhurst College President Dr. Alan Ray will deliver a lecture at Wheaton College titled "The Doctrine of Discovery and the Conquest of the Americas."


Dr. Ray has served as president of Elmhurst College since July 2008. He is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and holds a J.D. from the University of California and a Ph.D. in religion from Harvard. He has written and taught on religion, philosophy, and Native American legal issues.  During the Monday evening lecture Dr. Ray will offer an exploration of the Doctrine of Discovery and its role in the conquest of the indigenous inhabitants of the Americas, examining its enduring social and legal effects. Open to the public, this lecture will be held in room 339 of Blanchard Hall. For more information, contact the Biblical and Theological Studies department.
