The Wheaton College Conservatory of Music presents "All Nature Sings: Orchestral Soundscapes," a concert performed by the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. This WCSO performance will feature works inspired by the beauty and power of natural soundscapes. Highlights will include the world-premiere performance of Dr. Xavier Beteta's Camino del Bosque, which incorporates soundscape recordings captured in Guatemala by Dr. Kristen Page, and a new poem written by Dr. Tiffany Kriner. The program also includes Felix Mendelssohn's evocative Fingal's Cave, Johann Strauss, Jr.'s beloved On the Beautiful Blue Danube, and Ottorino Respighi's exhilarating Pines of Rome. Attendees will enjoy special contributions from students involved in Wheaton's German Studies and HNGR programs. The Graduate Biblical and Theological Studies at Wheaton College presents "Wessner Inaugural Lecture with the Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler," a lecture by Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 7:00 PM. Join us for the Kenneth T. Wessner Chair of Biblical Studies Inaugural Lecture with the Rev. Dr. Amy Peeler. The lecture is entitled "Born of a Woman: Humanity Valued and God Revealed." No orthodox theologian nor serious historian denies that Jesus was human. As it happens by God design, humans come to be through conception and birth. The same process happened to Jesus. In this in-depth exegetical analysis of Galatians 4:4, Peeler discloses the implications for humanity and our knowledge of God in Paul’s assertion that God sent forth his son born of a woman. It isn’t only Jesus’ divinity and humanity that matter to Paul, Jesus’ mother does as well. Amy Peeler has taught at Wheaton College since 2012 and in the PhD program since 2020. A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University (BA, Biblical Languages, summa cum laude, 2002) and Princeton Theological Seminary (MDiv, 2005; PhD, 2011), she also held a postdoctoral teaching fellowship in the John Wesley Honors College at Indiana Wesleyan University (2010–2012) and served as one of the Senior Research Fellows in the Logos Institute at St. Mary’s College, University of St. Andrews (2018). Her research has focused on the Epistle to the Hebrews (“You are My Son”: The Family of God in the Epistle to the Hebrews, T&amp;T Clark 2014; Hebrews: An Introduction and Study Guide with Patrick Gray, T&amp;T Clark, 2020; Hebrews, Commentaries for Christian Formation, Eerdmans, 2024) and gender questions in exegesis and theology (Women and the Gender of God, Eerdmans, 2022). This lecture arises out of her current research into the implications of Paul’s discussions of the Incarnation. She also serves as Associate Editor of the New International Commentary on the New Testament. Ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church (2016), she has served as Associate Rector at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Geneva since 2019. Amy is married to her high school sweetheart, liturgical scholar and church musician Dr. Lance Peeler. They are grateful to call the Wheaton community their home as they raise their three children, Kate (16), Maxson (12), and Kindred (10). Join the Alexander Hamilton Society and the Wheaton Center for Faith, Politics &amp; Economics as they host Elliott Abrams, senior fellow for Middle Eastern studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, DC. Mr. Abrahms served as deputy assistant to the president and deputy national security advisor in the administration of President George W. Bush, where he supervised U.S. policy in the Middle East for the White House, and as Special Representative for Iran and Venezuela in the administration of Donald Trump.
