Spring Break Staycation Activities at Wheaton College

Wheaton College offers campus activities geared toward children 4-12 during spring break week.

The community is invited to visit campus and experience a different side of Wheaton College during spring break March 25-28.

The Billy Graham Center Museum is hosting the following staycation activities for children 4-14.

History Scavenger Hunt - Explorers are invited to search the museum for clues and rare artifacts, beginning their quest in 1492, and traveling through time to the present day. Prizes will be awarded to those who successfully complete their expedition! This activity is available from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 25 through Thursday, March 28.

Sketching with Watanabe - During 9:30 a.m. -5:30 p.m. museum hours, visitors have the opportunity to learn about Japanese art and sketch a favorite print from the current exhibit "Beauty Given by Grace."  The exhibit features the work of Japanese printmaker Sadao Watanabe, who as a teen converted from Buddhism to Christianity. Through his art he expressed stories of his new faith using a traditional folk art technique using stencils.

Reading in the Rotunda - Spring and Easter stories will be told in the majestic Rotunda from 10-10:30 a.m. and 3:30-4 p.m. daily March 25-28. Stories are appropriate for children ages 12 and under and differ from day to day.

The Sports & Recreation Complex offers time for children to use their pool, climbing wall and gyms. Guest pass fees for $8 per person are required.

Open Gym - Gyms are available March 25-28 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Open Pool - The pool will be open for swimming, diving or relaxing in the hot tub from 1:30 -3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28.
Open Climbing - The 30-foot climbing wall will be available for scaling from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. Harnesses are provided.

Daily Guest Passes are always available to the public for $8/day; Community Memberships are also available at the SRC Front Desk. For more information, call 630.752.5468.

The Wade Center houses the collections of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and several other British authors. Children are welcome to open C.S. Lewis’ wardrobe and peek inside, through the fur coats, for a lamp post.

Veggie Tales film “Lord of the Beans” will be shown in the Wade Center classroom at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26 and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28. (Approximately 50 minutes)

Activity packets themed on C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings containing coloring pages, word searches, crossword puzzles, and various other activity pages are available for both younger and older children.

Quiz and trivia books centered on Narnia and Middle-earth will be available in the Reading Room for all families to come and use.

The Wade Center is open daily from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wade Center activities are free and open to children accompanied by parents. For more information, call 630.752.5908.
