McManis Lecture by Dr. Richard C. Taylor
Dr. Richard C. Taylor will deliver a philosophy lecture titled "Ibn Rushd / Averroes and Aquinas on Ultimate Human Happiness."
Dr. Taylor is professor of philosophy at Marquette University. His area of expertise and interests include religious studies, ancient and medieval metaphysics, philosophical psychology, Islamic and Arabic philosophical thought and philosopher Thomas Aquinas. He serves as editor of "History of Philosophy Quarterly."
In this lecture, Taylor will discuss Christian theologian Thomas Aquinas's criticism of Andalusian philosopher Ibn Rushd (Averroes), and the surprising influence this key thinker of Arabic/Islamic tradition had on Aquinas's theology.
