As a new year begins, Patch remembers those we lost in 2012.

Look back on some of the big-time names we've heard about in Wheaton

Every so often, a news story comes across the desk about Wheaton natives making names for themselves, or widely-known names stopping in town. From Mitt Romney to Sean Rooney, here are some big names in the news on Wheaton Patch in 2012: Mitt Romney visted a Wheaton home March 20 for a fundraiser on primary night. Wheaton College student Alyssa Paulsen competed for the USA Ambassador Miss national pageant title and spread her message of inner beauty to the community. She won the entire competition and was named queen, USA Ambassador Miss, in September. After his run on 'Hell's Kitchen," chef Patrick Cassata returned to Wheaton to take over as head chef at The Bank Restaurant. He revamped the menu to feature meals with local, sustainable …

What Happened to You in 2012?

Get married? Have a baby? Buy a house? We want to know: What was big for you in 2012?

As we prepare to come up with some solid and promising New Year's resolutions, it's natural to do a bit of self-reflection on what we've accomplished and experienced in the past year. Some years aren't full of milestones. Some are meant for getting life back on track or simply staying the course. The year I graduated from DePaul, I had graduated, gone to the Olympics, started a relationship, gotten my first job, my first car, my first apartment and my first student loan statement. It was the year of firsts, I guess—it seems that's probably the case for most college grads. This year, I went on my first mission trip to Mexico, rode in a hot air balloon in Santa Fe (a bucket list item) and moved into a new apartment (which is often a standard…

Megan Boken Murder, Murder-for-Hire, Home Invasion: Cases to Follow in 2013

Court cases related to Wheaton individuals and events will continue to next year. See which major cases to follow in 2013.

The two men charged with the Aug. 18 murder of Megan Boken, a St. Francis and St. Louis University alum, will be on trial. Keith Esters, 18, of Bel Ridge, MO, reportedly admitted he was involved in the shooting of Boken. His accused accomplice, Johnathan Perkins, told police he agreed to drive Esters to St. Louis for a robbery. Perkins allegedly stopped the car to let Esters out for the robbery. He then allegedly parked the car within sight of the shooting, waited for Esters and drove him away from the scene.  According to the statement, Esters told police he saw Megan Boken on her phone, and chose her as the target of a robbery. He then approached her with the gun and while trying to rob her, he shot her twice, the document states.  …
