Four Wheaton Warrenville South seniors sign with colleges on National Signing Day.

Four Wheaton Warrenville South seniors have signed with college football programs Wednesday, National Signing Day. Wide receiver Corey Davis signed with Western Michigan University (D1), defensive lineman Dan Chism signed with Eastern Illinois University (D1), defensive lineman Hollis Henry signed with Western Illinois University (D1) and offensive lineman Frank Garcia signed with St. Cloud State University (D2), Wheaton Warrenville South head coach Ron Muhitch said Wednesday. Davis had 45 catches as a senior, six receiving touchdowns in 2012 and was named to the all-conference and all-area teams in 2012, according to Western Michigan athletics. Football: Wheaton North Beats Wheaton Warrenville South

Wheaton North ended Wheaton Warrenville South's football season Friday, with a 23-13 win.

The Wheaton North Falcons beat the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers 23-13 Friday, ending a ten-year streak of playoff appearances for the Tigers, and of Tiger victories in the annual cross-town matchup. North (8-1, 6-1) scored their 23 points in the first half. North quarterback John Peltz threw a touchdown pass to Kaelen Bradford and two to Tom Colletti. He got a safety when JD Marconi tackled South's punter in his end zone after a snap, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Tigers (4-5, 4-3) scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. North stopped South with a sack early in the fourth quarter, followed by a North drive that ended the game, according to the Tribune. What is it About Wheaton Football?

Why is football so big in Wheaton? Heritage, committed coaches, strong youth programs and powerhouse high school programs, coaches say.

The Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South teams on Friday will meet for their annual cross-town matchup. North has beaten South once since 1988 (that win was in 2002), but has been a powerhouse this season that will be tough to stop, Soutch coach Ron Muhitch said. Their 7-1 record has them seeded second in the Class 7A playoffs. To continue their run of playoff appearances since 2002, the Tigers need to win Friday. Before 2002, the team made every playoffs since 1988. Wheaton high schools have been the starting points of football greats for generations, starting with a pioneer of the sport, Pro Football Hall of Famer Harold (Red) Grange. Joe D Very informative Scott M, I watched that 1981 State Championship team of Wheaton North, and they are arguably the best team ever to play in Wheatons History, and I would add Jim Juriga was the most decorated football player to come from Wheaton with the exception of Red Grange.   more ›

North-South Game a Must-Win for Tigers

The Wheaton North Falcons and Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers play in the annual cross-town football game Friday, Oct. 19 at Wheaton North High School. The Tigers need to win the game in order to go to the Class 7A playoffs.

The Wheaton North Falcons and Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers will face each other Friday for their last game of the regular season. The Falcons (7-1, 5-1) have a secure spot as the No. 2 seed in the Class 7A playoffs and are gearing up for the game after suffering their first loss to Glenbard North last week. Wheaton's Reilly O'Toole Breaks Illinois Football Record

Wheaton Warrenville South grad Reilly O'Toole completed 26 of 31 passes in the 44-0 win over Charleston Southern University on Saturday.

Wheaton Warrenville South grad Reilly O'Toole broke an Illinois record Saturday when he completed 26 of 31 passes for 333 yards and five touchdowns against Charleston Southern University, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Illini (2-1) defeated CSU (0-3) 44-0. O'Toole's completion rate of 83.9 percent is a new school record, according to the Sun-Times.  O'Toole made his first start for the Illini in the team's second game against Arizona State. Starting quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase has been out with an injury, according to Fox 2 Now. The Illini host Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Football: Maine South Capitalizes on Turnovers, Pulls Away From Wheaton-Warrenville South

Maine South 19, Wheaton Warrenville South 13: Hawks quarterback Matt Alviti ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in a dazzling performance on Friday night.

Breaking It Down: Maine South was constantly on the attack, moving the ball efficiently against Wheaton Warrenville South's defense much of the time during a 19-13 victory on Friday night. The Tigers’ offense, meanwhile, committed three turnovers and made numerous errors that cost them a chance at turning the tide. After swapping touchdowns in the second quarter, the Hawks finally capitalized on a third-quarter interception with a 39-yard touchdown run by Matt Alviti. A fumble later in the third led to another TD, this time on an 11-yard Alviti pass to wide receiver Michael Bosco. The Tigers tried to make a run late in the fourth quarter but ran out of time and had to settle for an 8-yard TD pass at the buzzer to Cole Krynicki.  Patch’s …
