The park will reopen Thursday, May 16. Crews work to remove circle driveway on West Street.
Northside Park in Wheaton will be closed until Thursday, May 16, while contractors work to replace the entrance circle on North West Street. Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday. Roads will be inaccessible until later this week, according to a message from the Wheaton Park District. Parking will be available during the week on adjacent streets and the lot at Armbrust and Darling Streets. The First Baptist Church on Main Street will also allow public use of their parking lot. There is pedestrian access to the park from the west side of the church near the basketball courts/pool parking lot. The Wheaton Park District on Saturday, April 20 will host the fifth annual Go Fly a Kite Event from 10am-3pm in Graf Park. Make a kite, fly a kite, and watch professional kite flyers—including special guests, The Chicago Fire Kite Team—take to the air in demonstrations throughout the day. Guests can bring a kite and join the Grand Launch at 11:30 a.m., when the Wheaton Park District attempts to break its record of 843 kites flying simultaneously. The free event is held in Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, just east of the DuPage County Fairgrounds and features family friendly games, kite vendors and concessions. Two incumbents and one newcomer elected to Wheaton Park District board of commissioners.
Incumbents John Kelly and Mark Schobel and newcomer Jane Hodgkinson have won the 2013 election to the Wheaton Park District board of commissioners. With all precincts reporting, Hodgkinson finished first with 4,602 votes, followed by John Kelly with 4,166 votes and Mark Schobel with 3,997 votes. Jane Hodgkinson will bring 30 years of experience as the executive director of the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA). She said Tuesday, "I'm very honored that I was elected to the Wheaton Park District... I still contend it's one of the best park districts in the U.S. and I'm looking forward to being a part of that." The DuPage County Historical Museum will debut its folk art exhibit to the public Saturday, April 13.
The DuPage County Historical Museum will open its largest changing exhibit to date, “Early Illinois Folk Art 1825-1925,” at a preview event Thursday, April 11 before it opens to the public on Saturday, April 13, 2013. The exhibit will feature more than 100 artifacts from duck decoys to whirligigs, including six original Sheldon Peck paintings. Peck, a well-known itinerant portrait artist of the 19th century, settled in the area now known as Lombard. Bob Jacobsen, a DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation board member, organized a special effort to catalog the exhibit with a commemorative book—the first ever published by the Wheaton Park District, according to a news release from the park district. “Early Illinois Folk Art 1825-1925” …

Wheaton Ale Fest has a new name: Wheaton Brew Fest. Park district and event promoter part ways, new model planned for 2013 event.
The Wheaton Park District is changing things up for the third annual beer fest in downtown Wheaton. The event known as "Wheaton Ale Fest" will now be "Wheaton Brew Fest," after the park district ended its partnership with Brew Fest Partners. To adhere to the Illinois Liquor Commission's interpretation of laws related to events like Brew Fest, the district will shift from a model of unlimited 3-ounce tastes at a 5-hour event to a fifteen 2-ounce taste punch card system, with the ability to purchase additional tastes, throughout the 4-hour event, according to a news release from the park district.
