Wheaton North Quarterback Thorson Commits to Northwestern

The Wheaton junior slinger has offered his early verbal commitment to Pat Fitzgerald and the purple Wildcats after getting offers from 13 schools.

In a college-football recruiting season mostly filled with commitments for the Class of 2013, an early Class of 2014 announcement surfaced Monday as Wheaton North junior quarterback Clayton Thorson offered a verbal decision to attend Northwestern University, the Daily Herald reports. Thorson, a 6'4", 190-lb Rivals.com "four-star" QB, had offers from 13 schools including Illinois Iowa, Penn State and Ole Miss, according to Northwestern athletic blog Sippin' on Purple. According to the Herald, Thorson is a dual-threat quarterback and reciever, having thrown for 401 yards, seven touchdowns and just one pick in 2012, which also running for 272 yards and 4 touchdowns, and catching 36 passes for 578 yards. Wheaton North Football, Soccer Players Sign With Colleges

Wheaton North High School seniors commit to play in college on National Signing Day.

Three Wheaton North High School seniors have signed on with college football programs Wednesday, National Signing Day. Wheaton North Head Coach Joel Wardynski said in an email defensive end Kellen Cleveland signed with the Air Force Academy, running back Patrick Sharp signed with the University of North Dakota and defensive back Jaylen Howze signed with Minnesota State Moorhead. Sharp was a three-year varsity starter for the Falcons who earned first team DuPage Valley All-Conference honors his junior and senior years. He was named to the all-area team as a senior. He rushed for 777 yards and 13 touchdowns and finished his high school career with 2,300 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns, according to the University of North Dakota athletics …

Wheaton North's John Peltz Commits to Wheaton College

Wheaton North High School quarterback John Peltz has committed to play football and baseball at Wheaton College in the fall.

Wheaton North High School quarterback John Peltz will continue his family's tradition of competing in Thunder athletics at Wheaton College as a quarterback and third baseman next year. Peltz signed with Wheaton College on Thursday, relieved to officially know where he'll play next year. "I'm just, overall, excited to finally get the decision out of the way... It's kind of a big relief. I'm really excited to play baseball and football (there)," he said. Peltz will play under his uncle, head coach Mike Swider and his dad, defensive line coach Jeffrey Peltz, and he'll reunite with his cousin, freshman inside linebacker Mike Swider, who played with Peltz at Wheaton North. His other cousin, junior tailback Justin Swider, also played at Wheaton …

The Wheaton North Falcons (10-1) face the Glenbard West Hilltoppers (11-0) Saturday in the Class 7A quarterfinal game at Glenbard West High School. The Falcons, seeded No. 5 in the IHSA playoffs beat No. 13 seed Prospect High School 14-7 last Friday to qualify for the quarterfinal against the No. 1 seed. The game is 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Boulevard, Glen Ellyn. The winner will play the winner of the Rockford Boyland-Lake Zurich quarterfinal game in the semifinal next week. Related:

Football Playoffs: Wheaton North Advances to Quarterfinals

Wheaton North beats Prospect to move on to quarterfinals in the Class 7A playoffs.

The No. 5 seed Wheaton North Falcons beat No. 13 Prospect 14-7 Friday to move on to the Class 7A quarterfinals next weekend. The Falcons (10-1) will play No. 1 seed Glenbard West Friday. Down 7-6 in the fourth quarter, North quarterback Johnny Peltz took the Falcons 83 yards in 11 plays, finishing with a touchdown pass to Matt Biegalski with 5:01 remaining, the Daily Herald reports. North faces Glenbard West (11-0) next week at Glenbard West. The time is to be determined.

The Wheaton North High School Falcons (9-1), ranked No. 5 in the playoffs, tonight will face the Prospect High School Knights (7-3), No. 13, in Round 2 of the IHSA Class 7A playoffs. With a win tonight, the Falcons would go on to play the winner of the Round 2 game between No. 1 Glenbard West (10-0) and No. 9 Libertyville (8-2) in the quarterfinals. Football: Wheaton North Beats Wheaton Warrenville South

Wheaton North ended Wheaton Warrenville South's football season Friday, with a 23-13 win.

The Wheaton North Falcons beat the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers 23-13 Friday, ending a ten-year streak of playoff appearances for the Tigers, and of Tiger victories in the annual cross-town matchup. North (8-1, 6-1) scored their 23 points in the first half. North quarterback John Peltz threw a touchdown pass to Kaelen Bradford and two to Tom Colletti. He got a safety when JD Marconi tackled South's punter in his end zone after a snap, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Tigers (4-5, 4-3) scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. North stopped South with a sack early in the fourth quarter, followed by a North drive that ended the game, according to the Tribune. The Falcons (7-1, 5-1) have a secure spot as the No. 2 seed in the Class 7A playoffs and are gearing up for the game after suffering their first loss to Glenbard North last week. The Tigers (4-4, 4-1) need the win to make the playoffs. Losing would make 2012 the first year the Tigers have not made the playoffs since 2002, the same year the Falcons last beat the Tigers.
