City Swears in New Councilmen

Wheaton City Council swears in new and returning members for the 2013-17 term.

Five Wheaton City Council members on Monday took the oath to serve the city for a four-year term.  W. Thoreson Saline will replace Mouhelis in the East District seat. Councilmen John Rutledge, Todd Scalzo and Phil Suess will continue to serve in the South, West and North district seats, respectively. John Prendiville will return to serve on the Council as Councilman At-Large. While City Council seats in all four of Wheaton's districts and one at-large seat were up for election this year, the only contested race was in the city's North District. Phil Suess Re-Elected to Wheaton City Council

Phil Suess wins the 2013 election to Wheaton City Council with 884 votes and all precincts reporting.

Updated 8:13 p.m. Wheaton City Council candidate Phil Suess won the 2013 election to the North District seat Tuesday with 884 votes and all precincts reporting.  Suess, who has been on the Council for the past eight years finished ahead of JT del Alcazar with 587 votes, Ted Rodgers with 434 votes and Alberta Adamson with 325 votes. Suess said Wednesday the results of the election were "very gratifying." "It's always great when the community acknowledges you've done a good job," he said. Council Approves Plan for Mariano's Parking Lot at Downtown Gateway

Wheaton City Council members approve developer's request to build a parking lot for Mariano's Fresh Market employees at the northwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Main Street.

Wheaton City Council on Monday approved a developer's request to build a 136-space parking lot for Mariano's Fresh Market employees instead of an office building or bank at the northwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Main Street. The measure passed 4-3 after disagreement over whether to keep a condition requiring developer Bradford Real Estate to use permeable pavers or porous pavement instead of asphalt for the lot in the ordinance. Bradford's plan originally included redevelopment of the lot at the northwest corner of Roosevelt Road and Main Street, but the unexpected success of Mariano's stores in the Chicago area prompted the request for additional parking instead of another business. Charlotte, thanks for the clarification.....turning a "prime" corner into an employee parking lot is the absolute "expected" planning we get from the planning staff, Rose and the Council....that use will surely say welcome to Wheaton (Beautiful stone walls that the taxpayers paid for, not the developer!!!). There are five Wheaton City Council seats up for election this year, including an At-Large position. The only contested race is in Wheaton's North District, with four candidates running for incumbent Phil Suess's seat.
