Chamber Awards to Recognize Wheaton Businesses

The 2013 Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Gamon Awards will recognize Wheaton businesses, organizations and individuals for their work in 2012.

Voting is open for the annual Wheaton Chamber of Commerce Gamon Awards, where Wheaton businesses and organizations will receive recognition for their work in 2012. The nominees are: Community Developent & Improvement Award Large Business of the Year Award Small Retail Business of the Year Award Award Small Service Business of the Year Award Small Service Business of the Year Award/Health & Wellness Field Restaurant of the Year Award Best Marketing Campaign Award Top Young Professional Award Small NFP Organization of the Year Large NFP Organization  Voting takes place on the Chamber of Commerce website and ends Feb. 25.

Nominations Open for Wheaton Chamber Businesses of the Year

Anyone can nominate their business of choice on the Chamber website until Monday.

Nominations for the Wheaton Chamber businesses of the year will be open until Monday, Jan. 30. Anyone can nominate their favorite businesses in the following categories: Henry C. Childs Community Development & Improvement Award This award recognizes the development or improvement of real property in Wheaton OR the development of a program benefitting Wheaton residents.  Franklin E. Wheaton Large Business of the Year Award Presented to a Wheaton Chamber business with 11 or more employees who has made an outstanding contribution to the growth and stability of the Chamber during the past year. Anton and Lidia Carlson Small Retail Business of the Year Award Presented to a Wheaton Chamber retail business with 10 or fewer employees who has made …

Wheaton Council Passes SSA

In a 4-3 vote council approves taxing plan that will fund the Downtown Wheaton Association.

Wheaton Mayor Michael Gresk cast the deciding vote Monday to approve the establishment of a new Special Services Area that will fund the Downtown Wheaton Association.  The vote establishing SSA #7 mirrored the October vote that moved the process to the public hearing stage. Council members Jeanne Ives, Evelyn Pacino-Sanguinetti and Phil Suess opposed the plan. While the SSA has been approved, a legal challenge may be filed by those who opposed its creation. Last week opponents of the proposed SSA filed petitions opposing the creation of the taxing district that will fund the Downtown Wheaton Association. Business Communities Can Connect, Relax at First Annual Office Block Party

The Wheaton business community can kick back, eat, drink and dance on Front Street Wednesday, Jun. 29.

For the first time, business communities from the north and south sides of Wheaton can eat, drink, dance and mingle in the street at the first annual Wheaton Outdoor Office Block Party on Front Street Wednesday, Jun. 29.  Mike Burke, manager at The Bank Restaurant, came up with the idea for the event with hopes to give Wheaton workers a chance to "connect and relax after a stressful work day—what I believe we’ve all been having. "We can kick back, have a drink and some food, listen to some music and maybe dance ... just have a good time,” Burke said.
