Four people in DuPage County have died of West Nile Virus, out of 28 human cases, the DuPage County Health Department announced Wednesday. Those affected by WNV are in their 20s-70s, and are located in Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glyn Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville, Villa Park and Westmont, according to a press release from the DuPage County Health Department. The number of West Nile virus cases reported nationwide is at the highest level since 2003.
Officials confirmed Monday a third person has died in DuPage County as a result of contracting West Nile virus. The DuPage County Health Department reported 25 people have contracted the virus, with three of those cases resulting in deaths. The confirmed cases of West Nile virus have affected people ranging in age from their 20s to 70s, said David Hass, public information officer for the health department. The number of cases of West Nile virus continue to rise and more cases are expected to be confirmed, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
A second DuPage County resident has died as a result of contracting West Nile virus, the DuPage County Health Department announced Friday. The health department confirmed that the number of cases of West Nile virus in the county has risen to 15, with two of those cases resulting in deaths related to the virus. Lombard Village President Bill Mueller, 76, became the first West Nile fatality in DuPage County. He had been battling cancer since 2008, was hospitalized in early August and died last month.
