ESPN to Recognize Wheaton Warrenville South State Champs

ESPN will honor Wheaton Warrenville South varsity boys volleyball team Friday, June 22.

ESPN will honor the Wheaton Warrenville South Varsity Boys Volleyball team with a national championship trophy and banner to be presented at the school.   This is the first time an Illinois school has been honored in this manner. WWS would like to pack the house and invites all members of the community to join the WWS National Champions on the 22nd at 5pm. According to head coach Bill Schreier, “Let’s show ESPN a taste of what Tiger Nation is all about. Bring as many people as possible and celebrate this historic event.” Information courtesy of District 200.

The idea of a "National Champion" in high school athletics is preposterous! They should ALWAYS BE a state honor. The seedy underworld of "recruiting" players (having 'John Doe' use his uncle's address to play for school X when he lives in the district for school Z) is bad enough! Wheaton Warrenville South students perform in their school's variety show held last month. The Wheaton Warrenville South Classics Show Choir competed at the 2012 FAME Branson show choir competition in Branson, MO in late March, where they were named Grand Champions and received awards for best choreography, best vocals, best band, best show design and best female soloist (Emma Wright).

WWS' Vitale Commits to Northwestern

ESPN Chicago reports that Wheaton Warrenville South senior Dan Vitale committed to Northwestern Friday.

ESPN Chicago reported Friday that Wheaton Warrenville South athlete Dan Vitale committed to Northwestern after attending its football camp on Friday.  Vitale plays offense for WWS. He could play as a safety, linebacker or superback for Northwestern, according to the report. Read the story on the ESPN Chicago site.

Boys Lacrosse: WWS Advances in Playoffs, WNHS Loses to Hinsdale, Ends Season

The Wheaton Warrenville South boys lacrosse team plays Nequa Valley at 7 p.m. Friday in Wheaton.

The Wheaton Warrenville South boys lacrosse team defeated Hoffman Estates 12-3 in its first round of playoffs at WWS Wednesday. They face Nequa Valley High School at 7 p.m. Friday in Wheaton. The Wheaton North boys lacrosse team ended its season Tuesday with a 4-3 loss to Hinsdale Central in the first round of playoffs.

Wheaton-Warrenville Volleyball Takes Regional Championship Over Lyons

The No. 1-in-state Tigers out-serve and out-spike the Lions en route to a 25-14, 25-17 victory.

Lyons Township volleyball coach Joann Pyritz already led one Lions team to an upset over a No. 1 state team this school year—but the repeat wasn’t meant to be. Wheaton Warrenville South boys volleyball team (35-2), Illinois' current no. 1 team, will compete against Glenbard East in the sectional semifinals Friday after defeating the LT Lions (22-15), 25-14, 25-17 on Monday night at York High School. “This is a tough sectional,” said Pyritz. “We played pretty well last night [narrowly defeating Waubonsie Valley in three games.] We’d have liked to come out with a little better effort tonight, but that’s just the way it went.” The high-flying Tigers battered down the Lyons serve-receive with powerful jump serves, forcing LT setter Jack Gouty …
