Visions for Vacancies

What Should Open in the Old Austin BBQ Space?

Patch readers have responded to our new weekly feature, "Visions for Vacancies," with ideas of what should open in vacant spaces in Wheaton.

Last month, Austin BBQ closed its restaurant at 226 W. Front St. in downtown Wheaton. Following a 10-year partnership with a Rosati's restaurant in Rolling Meadows, owner Doug Pierce opened Austin BBQ on January 8, 2011 at 226 W. Front St. Patch's feature, "Visions for Vacancies," asks readers to share their ideas about what should fill vacant spaces in Wheaton. Here are some of our past Visions for Vacancies posts—We'd love to know what you think of these, too:  Whether it's a new restaurant, a Gap or something completely new, we want to hear what businesses you'd most like to see take over at 226 W. Front St. in Wheaton. There are plenty of ways to keep up with Wheaton news:

What Should Open in the Former 'It's Our Earth' Space?

Patch readers have responded to our new weekly feature, "Visions for Vacancies," with ideas of what should open in vacant spaces in Wheaton.

It's Our Earth, an "eco-tique" shop closed at 125 N. Main St. in downtown Wheaton, and is now for sale with another building on the lot for $499,000, according to the Downtown Wheaton Association website. Patch's new feature, "Visions for Vacancies," asks readers to share their ideas about what should fill vacant spaces in Wheaton. A major focus of the city right now is developing a strategic and streetscape plan for the downtown area, and they're looking to the residents for input (You can also post comments to Wheaton's MindMixer site, developed for the strategic vision). Last week, we recapped our first six weeks of the feature. Before then, we asked: What should Open n the Ron's TV Building? Whether it's a new restaurant, a Gap or …

What Should Open in the Ron's TV Building?

In a new weekly series, Patch asks readers how they would fill empty storefronts around Wheaton.

The old Ron's TV store is for lease at the corner of Liberty Drive and Hale Street in downtown Wheaton. A design has been approved for the 1927 building, but no businesses currently occupy the space. The design would feature brick, stone and caping, similar to the Il Sogno building across the tracks. The available space is 4,561 square feet, and is divisible to 916 square feet with its space options. The first space is 3,645 square feet, divisible to 1,050 square feet, with 12-foot ceilings. The space is $12 per square foot per year. The second area of the space is in the same building, at 207 S. Hale St. The 916-square-foot space was formerly a nail salon, and is also $12 per square foot per year. The second space option is the entire 10,…

I worked for the city of Wheaton for 20 years and saw the demise of the downtown bus district firsthand. The building of Danada was only the 1st step, not the clincher. The planning committee thought widening Naperville road would provide a highway that dead-ended into the downtown area. What they foolishly disregarded was...the fact that the road also led OUT of downtown and towards Danada. They…   more ›

What Should Open on the Vacant Lot at Main St. and Liberty Dr.?

In a new weekly series, Patch asks readers how they would fill empty storefronts around Wheaton.

A vacant lot is listed for sale at 205 S. Main St. in downtown Wheaton for $595,000. The lot is less than a quarter of an acre, and is located at the intersection of Main Street and Liberty Drive, according to its Trulia listing. Last week, we asked you what should open at the old Adelle's restaurant space on College Avenue. Before then: the Wheaton Grand Theater building. And our first post: the JB Winterberry space. Whether it's a new restaurant, clothing store or something completely new, we want to hear what businesses you'd most like to see take over at 1060 College Ave. in Wheaton.

What Should Open in the Old Adelle's Restaurant Space?

In a new weekly series, Patch asks readers how they would fill empty storefronts around Wheaton.

When Adelle's Fine American Fare moved to its new location on Liberty Drive, it opened up a 4,450-square-foot space in the retail strip on College Avenue. Now listed for lease at $4,605 a month, the restaurant-ready, 3,250-square-foot indoor space can occupy up to 80 people, a 1,200-square-foot patio that seats up to 55 people and basement storage, according to its listing. Last week, we asked you what should open at 124 N. Hale St. Before then: the Wheaton Grand Theater building. And our first post: the JB Winterberry space. Whether it's a new restaurant, clothing store or something completely new, we want to hear what businesses you'd most like to see take over at 1060 College Ave. in Wheaton. Patch asked readers the same question on its…
