Wheaton police reports, May 4-11
SATURDAY, MAY 11 Police charged Chase R. Howard, 20, of the 24W700 block of Merrill Drive, Wheaton, with driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. Howard was driving a dark green 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee at 2:59 a.m. at Plamondon and Orchard Road when police initiated a traffic stop. Howard was booked at the Wheaton Police Department and later released. Police charged Jessica L. Hill, 28, of the 2600 block of Wingate Court, Aurora, with driving under the influence of alcohol. Hill was driving a maroon or burgundy 2009 Chevy Aveo at 2:12 a.m. at Butterfield and Naperville roads when police initiated a traffic stop. Hill was booked at the Wheaton Police Department and released later that morning. …

SUNDAY, APRIL 28 Police charged Cody L. Costello, 22, of the 2400 block of Wydown Lane, Aurora, with driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Costello was driving a blue 1992 Chevy Astro at 3:42 a.m. at Butterfield and Orchard roads when police initiated a traffic stop. Costello was booked at the Wheaton Police Department and released later that day. FRIDAY, MARCH 8 Police charged a 14-year-old boy with theft at Wheaton Warrenville South High School. MONDAY, MARCH 4 Police charged a 16-year-old boy with battery at Wheaton Warrenville South High School. FRIDAY, MARCH 1 Police charged a 12-year-old boy with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon at Franklin Middle School. Murillo drove a red 2004 Dodge Durango near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Westhaven Drive at about 8:43 p.m. when police stopped him. He was released at the scene. Police charged Nancy L. BATAVIA A 20-year-old North Auroran and a 19-year-old Batavian were each issued complaints for unlawful consumption of an alcoholic liquor. An officer made the arrests at 2:12 a.m. on Feb. 21, according to a police report. Jason R. Leannah, of the first block of Grace Street, North Aurora, was speeding more than 40 mph over the limit. He posted his driver's license for bond for the speeding offense. Philip R.C. Vermaas, of the 800 block of North Forest Avenue, Batavia, was issued a notice to appear in court for failure to wear a seat belt, according to the police report. Leannah and Vermaas were each released on personal recognizance for their individual drinking offenses. They were each given March 19 court dates for all charges. ST. …

NAPERVILLE A woman reported on Feb. 5 that someone had placed a used condom on her apartment door handle in the 200 block of East Bailey Road, police said. GLEN ELLYN Michael P. Dieterle, 20, of the 1300 block of East Elm Street, Wheaton, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. Jan. 27 in the 300 block of Alder Lane, police said. He was charged with public intoxication, illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and public indecency. ST. CHARLES Steven J. Michalak, 42, of the 5N200 block of Hanson Road, called police at 12:24 a.m. Jan. 31 to request assistance. He was at XSport Fitness, 238 N. Randall Road, and the locks to his car doors had frozen. NAPERVILLE Two people were arrested early Jan. 27 after a brawl broke out inside a downtown Naperville bar, in which a stiletto shoe was used as a weapon, the Naperville Police Department said. Kenneth S. Davis, 21, of the 500 block of Donna Avenue in Aurora and Jessica M. Manchur, 27, of the 600 block of Grove Drive in Elk Grove Village, were charged with fighting, prohibited under a city ordinance, police said. Officers responded to a fight in progress on the second floor at Rizzo's bar, 6 W. Jefferson Ave., around 12:44 a.m. Jan. 27. As a result of the fight, one man was transported to the hospital after suffering facial lacerations. Provisions of an Illinois law expands on parents' responsibilities to prevent underage drinking on their property.
A law taking effect Jan. 1 targeting underage drinking will crack down on parents who allow minors to drink anywhere on their property, expanding on the current law that specifies it is illegal to let minors drink at their home. The expanded law makes it a misdemeanor carrying a $500 fine for any adult to knowingly permit minors under the age of 21 to drink alcohol on their property or in their home. If the violation results in bodily harm or death, the adult will be charged with a felony, according to a press release from the City of Wheaton.
