Patch looks back at new businesses that opened in Wheaton this year.
From resale clothing stores to a national movie theater chain, Wheaton's economic development department has been busy bringing new businesses to town in 2012. Billy's Closet with pieces by designers Armani, Christian Dior and Ralph Lauren lining the walls. Five Guys burgers opened at 141 Danada Square East in the spring. Fashion jewelry chain Charming Charlie opened its doors at 261 Town Square Wheaton in May. Movie theater and restaurant Studio Movie Grill opened in Rice Lake Square on June 8, becoming Wheaton's only movie theater and one of 10 destination theaters in a Forbes' list of "Movie Theaters Worth Traveling For." Patch will be hosting the monthly "Girl's Night Out" movie showing Wednesday night, where ladies (and guys) can see "Sleepless in Seattle" for $1.
We're getting excited for the monthly "Girl's Night Out" movie showing at Studio Movie Grill in Wheaton this Wednesday, where Sleepless in Seattle is the $1 movie pick of the month. I, Patch Local Editor Charlotte Eriksen, will be there a little early to hang out by the bar and talk with anyone who has questions about Patch. I'll fire up the site and walk you through blogging, posting events, signing up for the newsletter and liking us on Facebook. If you already know about all of that, then we'll just hang out. School's out for Franklin students, and for others, it's an indoor day, with scattered storms expected this afternoon. Tell us in the comments how you keep yourself, and your kids, occupied.
Last night's storm left a few ComEd customers without power in Wheaton, including Franklin Middle School, which canceled its entire day. Now, about 800 kids have an entire day—a rainy day—to entertain themselves. According to the National Weather Service, the storms should weaken as they spread across the area this morning. After a late morning "lull," scattered thunderstorms could redevelop in the afternoon. So what will you do to entertain yourself, your friends or your kids? Wheaton movie theater takes extra measures to ensure safety during opening weekend of "The Dark Knight Rises" at Studio Movie Grill.
After 12 people were killed in a shooting that broke out during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, CO, Studio Movie Grill (SMG) President Brian Schultz says the theaters will take measures to increase security this weekend. “We have security measures in place, but for the continued safety of our patrons and staff, we are actively working with local law enforcement to add additional security to our theaters immediately and are reviewing current safety and security procedures," Brian Schultz, president of SMG said in a statement. Studio Movie Grill is a movie theater and restaurant opening in Wheaton's Rice Lake Square next month.
Due to a slight construction delay, Studio Movie Grill (SMG), a movie theater and restaurant opening in Wheaton, will open June 8, according to SMG spokesman Lynne McQuaker. Originally set for a late May opening, the nine-screen, 120-seat movie theater and restaurant will open at 301 Rice Lake Square in the 40,000-square-foot, former Linens 'N Things building.
