Wheaton police are in search of two people who offered a boy candy on April 16 in the Danada area, according to a press release. One male driver and one female passenger, both appearing to be teenagers, were in a suspicious vehicle when they approached the young male and offered candy. The incident occurred at about 3:31 p.m. in the area of Danada Drive and Naperville Road, police said. No license plate is available at this time for the vehicle, which was either a dark or light-colored older Oldsmobile. Further details about the male and female, including their descriptions, were also not available. District 200 safety forum reinforces importance of talking to kids about stranger danger in Wheaton.
Parents in Wheaton have been on the right track in teaching their kids about stranger danger. District 200 and local law enforcement officials met with 85 parents Tuesday, after repeated reports of abduction attempts and suspicious adults near bus stops and students in the district. Assistant Superintendent of Operations Bob Rammer said district officials assured parents they've been shrewd in training their children to report perceived dangers and uncomfortable situations. “Children are doing what we hoped they would do—reporting uncomfortable and unusual situations to responsible adults, who are forwarding (the message) to police,” he said.
