Thunderstorms could return to the Wheaton and Glen Ellyn areas this week starting late Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook for DuPage and surrounding counties about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, predicting storms across central Illinois Wednesday and Thursday. "There is a chance of thunderstorms Thursday and Thursday night across most of the outlook area... And then Friday from Chicago into northwest Indiana. The probability of widespread hazardous weather during these periods is low," NWS reports. Much of DuPage County was underwater by Thursday afternoon due to a rainstorm that dropped more than half a foot of water on some areas. Storms could produce up to two inches of rainfall and 60 mph winds, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Cook, DuPage and Kane counties, effective until 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Showers and thunderstorms will continue through the night, with possible rainfalls of up to two inches. The storm could also produce winds of up to 6 mph and isolated tornadoes, according to NWS. The chance for rain before 2 p.m. Wednesday is 80 percent, with a chance for less than an inch of snow later in the day as the temperature drops. Heavy snow and intense winds will mean very poor visibility on the roads.
Updated 8:13 a.m. A 7:50 a.m. accident at the intersection of Naperville and Roosevelt roads will cause some traffic delays Friday morning. ComEd representative says storm-related outages in Wheaton have been restored.
Commonwealth Edison officials said Friday power has been completely restored for customer with storm-related power outages in its western region. According to a ComEd representative, 24,000 storm-related outages remain as of Friday morning in the Chicago area with 19,900 in the northern region. Tuesday's storm caused "extensive damage" requiring a "multiple day" restoration effort from ComEd, according to its website, resulting in halted service for more than 400,000 customers. As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, more than 10,000 ComEd customers without power, according to ComEd's outage map.
