St. Francis Campaigns to Build $5M Athletic Complex

St. Francis High School starts campaign to upgrade its athletic field and facilities.

St. Francis High School has kicked off a campaign to upgrade its athletic complex with a new synthetic turf field, a six-lane, weather-resistent track, bleachers, a press box and a practice and concessions facility, with hopes to break ground in May. St. Francis graduates Ron and Theresa Kuhn donated an "early Christmas present" of $1 million to put toward the $5 million project, and four other donors donated another $1 million, according to a message from school president Tom Bednar and board chair Phil Kerr on the school's website. The St. Francis school board has approved the campaign, "Bring it All Back Home," to allow Spartan athletes who routinely leave campus for sports to have a home field, and implement a two-phased capital …

St. Francis Spartans to Compete for State Play

The St. Francis boys baseball team defeats opponent in Class 3A Sectional Championship game Saturday.

The St. Francis High School baseball program has reached the "Elite 8" in IHSA 3A Baseball for the first time in school history and will compete Monday, Jun. 6 for competing spot in the State Finals. A good showing of infield defense, upstanding pitching and consistent hitting led the Spartans (25-12) to a victory in the Class 3A Central Sectional Championship game against Richmond-Burton Saturday. In the second inning, the Spartans put 3 runs on the board and repeated the effort in the fifth, earning them the 6-2 victory. Jack Roback, 8-1 for the season, pitched through five innings of burning heat, allowed one hit, one run and fanned four batters.
