Severe Weather Possible Monday and Tuesday

Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes are all possible.

Get ready for some storms. The storm system that dropped large hail and tornadoes on parts of Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma is now headed toward Illinois. The National Weather Service has placed most of Illinois in the "slight risk" category for severe weather on Monday and Tuesday. The main threats on both days will be damaging winds and large hail. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center noted in its technical discussions that isolated tornadoes are also possible on Monday and Tuesday. "The most violent storms will ignite during the afternoon and evening hours as daytime heating causes instability," Accuweather.com Meteorologist Meghan Evans wrote in her forecast. Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect in Wheaton

The National Weather Service's warning is in effect until 11:45 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Illinois, including DuPage County, until 11:45 a.m. Friday.  At 10:43 a.m. Friday, "doppler radar indicated a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph," the NWS warning reads.  Lightning and heavy rain are also expected. Severe Weather Could Produce Isolated Tornadoes

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather advisory for DuPage County and other counties in northern Illinois.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather advisory for DuPage County and parts of northern Illinois for Tuesday, Aug. 23.  Today's thunderstorms could produce damaging winds of 60 mph, hail the size of quarters, isolated tornadoes and heavy rain.  The storms are expected to linger into the afternoon and evening.
