District 200 Examines Vending Machine Revenue Redistribution
Vending funds could go to district-wide pool if board approves change.
As funding concerns rise for Community Unit School District 200, the school board is exploring all of its options, including a redistribution of funds earned from vending machines on school property. During last week's District 200 school board meeting, School Board Vice President Rosemary Swanson broached the idea of pooling vending machine funds as a way to address some funding needs. The state of Illinois currently owes the district about $3 million, Superintendent Brian Harris said. Because of the lack of funding, the district laid off 50 teachers last year. Currently, money earned through vending machines benefits the individual school in which it is located, said Bill Farley, business assistant superintendent for District 200. …
