Rush Limbaugh's Attack on Women: Mom Talk

How can we raise our daughters to feel like equals when we are still being labeled hookers for having opinions?

Rush Limbaugh has always been a gaseous windbag, but "slut" and "prostitute?" Really? For anyone who may not have heard, the old right-wing shock jock blamed the victim. He waged a personal, and inappropriate attack on Sandra Fluke because she advocated insurance coverage of birth control. "I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation," he said in a diluted apology that came only after advertisers started pulling out. The wrong words? Ya think? Personally, I've never been a fan of shock jocks—on either side of the political spectrum. There is very little, if anything, that has ever come out of Limbaugh's mouth that I would find entertaining. He is easy to ignore. However, as a woman and a mom, this recent outrage has me seeing …

Good comparison, JD. The historical similarities between sluts and fascists are so obvous that it's no wonder Rush gets excited by both of them.   more ›

Gary Saake Enters Race for House District 42

Saake, a resident of Winfield, is the third candidate for the Republican primary.

The race for House District 42 Republican Primary is getting tighter with the entrance of Winfield businessman Gary Saake. On Wednesday Saake, a member of the Community High School District 94 Board of Education, announced his candidacy for the seat. Drawing on his business acumen, Saake said he knows what it takes to create jobs. If elected Saake said he will forward legislation that lowers taxes, helps create new and meaningful jobs and revitalize the Illinois economy. He said he is well aware of how punitive high taxes can be on attempts to create jobs by “choking” small businesses by hindering opportunities to grow. In a released statement Saake called the state pension system an “albatross around the neck of Illinois taxpayers.” He …

Councilwoman Ives Eyes Run at State House

Wheaton Councilwoman will formally announce her candidacy Monday.

Wheaton Councilwoman Jeanne Ives has her eye on Springfield. Ives, who won her seat on the city council in April, will formally announce her candidacy for House District 42 Republican primary on Monday. In a released statement, Ives said she decided to run after encouragement from Republican colleagues and a “change in the Republican field.” Ives said if she wins the primary and general election she will head to Springfield with two-years experience as a public servant under her belt. “Fortunately, in that time I will have influenced infrastructure spending, the Courthouse Square project, development at Hubble, the downtown SSA, union contracts, and more,” Ives said in her statement. “One thing I will do is protect municipalities' state …

No Time for Celebrating, Roskam Hard at Work

A day after winning reelection, Peter Roskam pushes for economic growth.

Rep. Peter Roskam isn't wasting any time celebrating his reelection to a third term in Congress or the fact that the U.S. House will be controlled by Republicans. Hours after Roskam defeated Democratic challenger Ben Lowe, he was hard at work talking with members of the House Ways and Means Committee discussing efforts to kick-start job growth in the United States. He said Congress needs to lay out a strategy to signal to the marketplace that change is coming that will allow businesses to flourish and expand in the near future. "We need to make sure that Washington, D.C. is putting forth policy that is putting forth certainty and clarity for business owners," Roskam said in a Wednesday morning telephone interview. Roskam said he is excited…

Matthew's right....both sides have become so incredibly set in garnering more votes that they forget what they're supposed to stand for. They've become complete polar opposites and are just pig-headed enough to not be willing to compromise anything (possibly for fear of losing more votes). The general concensus is that the majority of American views are actually closer to the middle, rather than …   more ›
