Family and Friends Identify Plane Crash Victims

Family and friends grieve over the loss of Saturday morning's small plane crash victims.

Residents in Marion, Ind. are mourning after friends and family identified Ray Harris, 46, and his two daughters Ramie Harris, 21, and Shey Harris, 20, as three of the victims in Saturday morning’s small plane crash outside of Crystal Lake. Friends and family also identified the fourth victim as Chris Backus, 22, of Eau Claire, Wis.  The small plane, flown by Ray Harris, went down about 10:30 a.m. in a soybean field west of Route 14 near North Ridgefield Road. According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the plane was registered to Marion Pilots Club, Inc. Ronnie Carmin, treasurer of the club. The non-profit organization owned the plane and shared it among its 10 members. Officials said it was a 2001 Cirrus SR20 model with tail …

Wheaton College Mourns Death of Student, other Plane Crash Victims

A close-knit student body mourns the death of junior Ramie Harris, who died in a small plane crash near Crystal Lake Saturday.

More than 2,000 Wheaton College students gathered Monday to remember Ramie Harris, a junior who died in the crash of a small plane Saturday.  At the school’s first chapel service after Thanksgiving break, Wheaton College President Dr. Phillip Ryken, staff and student leaders led the service of prayer and mourning the loss of Harris, her father, Ray Harris, her sister, Shey Harris and a family friend, Chris Backus. Officials continue to investigate the crash of a Cirrus-SR20 aircraft around 10:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Route 14 and North Ridgefield Road outside Crystal Lake. Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have not determined the cause of the crash. Ray Harris was piloting the plane, flying …

Wheaton College Student is One of 4 Dead in Plane Crash Near Crystal Lake

Four victims identified in small plane crash Saturday near Crystal Lake, the Chicago Tribune reports.

The four victims in a small plane crash Saturday near Crystal Lake have been identified as Ray Harris, 46, his daughters, Ramie and Shey, all of Marion, IN, and a friend of one of the daughters, Chris Backus, 22, of Eau Claire, WI, the Chicago Tribune reported Sunday. Ramie Harris, 21, was a junior psychology major at Wheaton College, said LaTonya Taylor, director of media relations for the college.   Wheaton College wrote in a statement Sunday, "The Wheaton College community is deeply saddened by the death of junior psychology major Ramie Lynn Harris.
