People’s Resource Center (PRC) on Wednesday will host a celebration in honor of its Computer Access program, which is giving away its 10,000th free, refurbished computer to a PRC client. PRC also offers free computer classes to low-income citizens of DuPage County, and students in these classes are eligible to receive a computer for their home. The program was designed to help eliminate the "digital divide" by giving people the tools to achieve mainstream wages and a career path—long term solutions to escaping poverty. “Distributing 10,000 computers is an enormous milestone," Kim Perez, Executive Director of People’s Resource Center said in a statement. People's Resource Center in Wheaton seeks donations of lightly-used prom dresses for its clients as prom season approaches.

People’s Resource Center (PRC) in Wheaton is seeking donations of lightly-used or new formal dresses, accessories and shoes, so girls who would otherwise not have a dress for prom can be “Belles of the Ball” with their peers. Through March 29, PRC accept donations of girls’ formal wear at its Wheaton (201 S. Naperville Road) and Westmont (649 Blackhawk Dr.) locations Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. On Saturday, March 30, PRC will invite girls agest 14 to 18 to choose the perfect dress at the Doubletree Suites hotel in Downers Grove. The Whole Foods Market stores in Wheaton and Willowbrook raised more than $33,000 to benefit the People’s Resource Center (PRC) food pantry. The stores’ “One Dime at a Time” program ran from October through December, and allowed customers to accept a refund for using recyclable bags or donate it to PRC. Holiday lunch to benefit local food pantry.
People's Resource Center (PRC) presents its annual women's luncheon, "Celebrating Creativity and Compassion." People’s Resource Center (PRC) received 10,752 Huggies diapers through a partnership with the National Diaper Bank Network (NDBN) and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. (K.I.D.S.) earlier this month, according to a press release from PRC. PRC will distribute the diapers to low-income DuPage County families. According to the most recent census, 22 percent of American children live at or below the poverty line, according to the release. In many cases, their families cannot provide the diapers they need because diapers, which can cost as much as $100 a month, cannot be bought with the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, commonly known as “food stamps”) or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, …

Whole Foods presented a check for $10,348.92 to People’s Resource Center (PRC) on Valentine’s Day at Whole Foods located at 151 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton. The store raised funds through two programs: Bag Hunger program and One Dime at a Time. Every time a customer brought his or her own reusable bags, Whole Foods Market gave a refund of 10 cents per bag. The customer could then donate that dime to a designated local charity. In addition, Whole Foods’ personnel asked for cash donations as well as non-perishable food for the PRC food pantry. The Wheaton business community can kick back, eat, drink and dance on Front Street Wednesday, Jun. 29.
For the first time, business communities from the north and south sides of Wheaton can eat, drink, dance and mingle in the street at the first annual Wheaton Outdoor Office Block Party on Front Street Wednesday, Jun. 29. Mike Burke, manager at The Bank Restaurant, came up with the idea for the event with hopes to give Wheaton workers a chance to "connect and relax after a stressful work day—what I believe we’ve all been having. In celebration of its 15th anniversary of Volunteer Day, Nicor is sending 20-25 volunteers Saturday to the People's Resource Center.
Nicor will celebrate its 15th anniversary of Volunteer Day Saturday with the help of employees, families, and community members who will spend the day completing 23 volunteer projects at non-profit organizations across the Nicor service area. In Wheaton, 20 to 25 volunteers will go to the People's Resource Center (PRC), 201 Naperville Road, to work in the food pantry, plant flowers, wash windows and whatever else time allows, according to PRC Executive Director Kim Perez.
