Bricks Pizza Owner Predicts Mid-December Opening

Owner says he hopes to open Bricks Wood Fired Pizza & Café in downtown Wheaton by mid-December.

Bricks Wood Fired Pizza & Café should be open at 103 E. Front St. in downtown Wheaton by mid-December, co-owner Sam Vlahos said in an email Wednesday. "We were with our contractor and landlord today and we believe if everything goes right we can hit a Mid-December deadline," he wrote. He said a few items were backordered, causing a slight delay. He said the restaurant's sliding front windows will be installed next week. Known for its wood fired brick oven pizzas ($9-$11), Bricks serves sandwiches baked in the wood fired oven, including a signature Chicken Pesto ($7), soups, salads, some appetizers and desserts. Co-owner Bill Wilson said Bricks in Wheaton will differ from its original store in Lombard, with gelato and craft beer on the menu…

Meatheads Burger Joint Opens in Glen Ellyn Aug. 17

Meatheads will open at 549 E. Roosevelt Rd. on Aug. 17. The restaurant's hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Submarine sandwiches may be the big lunch item today, but next week it will probably be burgers. Jersey Mike’s opens today in Glen Ellyn, but it isn’t the only restaurant opening its doors in town. Meatheads will hold its grand opening on Aug. 17 at its location at 549 E. Roosevelt Road. Two days prior to the grand opening, the burger joint will host private fundraising events for three local groups, Glen Ellyn Golden Eagles Football, Chicago Young Americans Hockey and Glen Ellyn Park District Soccer. The Glen Ellyn location, the eighth Meatheads location in Illinois, opens to the public at 11 a.m. Aug. 17, Sanders said. The Bloomington location was the company’s first and it opened in 2007. Meatheads has plans to open additional locations…

Prospect Ave. by late July. Aguamiel, named for the honey water extracted from agave plants in Mexico that once was offered only to the gods by the Aztecs and Mayans, will be the Jimenez family’s fifth Chicago-area restaurant. During its 35 years in the local market, the family has opened two Santa Fe Restaurant locations in Glen Ellyn and Sandwich, Santiago’s in La Grange, and Il Sogno in Wheaton. All but Il Sogno, an Italian restaurant, …
