State Rep. Jeanne Ives plans open house with Sen. Michael Connelly
Newly inaugurated State Representative Jeanne Ives (R—District 42) last week announced the opening of the district office she shares with Senator Michael Connelly (R—District 21) in Wheaton. Connelly and Ives will host an open house at their office at 1725 S. Naperville Rd. 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. “I look forward to meeting as many of my constituents as possible in person,” Ives said in a statement. “I am humbled by and grateful for their belief in my ability to advocate for them in the General Assembly. As I step into my first term, I want those I represent to know that from the beginning, my promise has been to advocate for them - the tax-payers, families, businesses and organizations I represent – at every decision point." Board members meet with area lawmakers to discuss upcoming legislative session and issues of importance to the school district.
During a breakfast meeting with area lawmakers at the District 200 headquarters Friday, District 200 board members urged the legislators to enact pension reform that is meaningful, but does not burden the already strained finances of local education systems. “With 1,500 employees in this district it could be a big burden,” Harris said. Wheaton Councilwoman will formally announce her candidacy Monday.
Wheaton Councilwoman Jeanne Ives has her eye on Springfield. Ives, who won her seat on the city council in April, will formally announce her candidacy for House District 42 Republican primary on Monday. In a released statement, Ives said she decided to run after encouragement from Republican colleagues and a “change in the Republican field.” Ives said if she wins the primary and general election she will head to Springfield with two-years experience as a public servant under her belt. “Fortunately, in that time I will have influenced infrastructure spending, the Courthouse Square project, development at Hubble, the downtown SSA, union contracts, and more,” Ives said in her statement. “One thing I will do is protect municipalities' state …

Illinois Legislature approves new maps that will bring new representation to the city.
The partisan wrangling in Springfield to redistrict legislative and congressional boundaries keeps Wheaton in two House and two Senate districts, and puts the city in one congressional district. Also, three current lawmakers will no longer represent Wheaton. The maps for new legislative and congressional districts, approved by the Illinois General Assembly over Memorial Day weekend, are on the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn awaiting his signature or veto. New lines are drawn every 10 years to reflect population shifts recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau. The political party in the majority gets to draw the new political boundaries and often draws district lines that protect the incumbent majority. Republican lawmakers have criticized the Democratic…
