PHOTOS: Wheaton Teen Inspires Chicago Athletes at Comcast SportsNet Awards

Connor McHugh shines as honoree at Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards.

About $900,000 was raised last week for the March of Dimes during the 25th Annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards, a record-high for the event, according to a press release from March of Dimes. Past and present iconic pro athletes took the stage to receive honors at the event that, to date, has raise about $11 million for March of Dimes.  The honorees are top athletes from Chicago's professional teams who have made considerable contributions to their teams, as well as the Chicago community. But the pinnacle moment of the evening was in honoring 13-year-old Wheaton resident, Connor McHugh, with the 2013 "Inspirational Athlete” award. Wheaton Teen to Receive ‘Inspirational’ Award

Connor McHugh to be honored at Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards.

Connor McHugh doesn’t necessarily know how the word inspirational applies to him. The 13-year-old St. Michael’s Parish School student enjoys sports, video games and history and just wants to be known for “being me,” he says. What draws so many people to Connor is how he has overcome lifelong physical limitations – he was born without arms, is missing a fibula bone in one leg and has only three toes on one foot – to do much of what most teenagers do. On Thursday, Connor will receive the Inspirational Athlete Award during the 25th Annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards in Chicago.
