Documentary Features Organization that Supports LGBTQ Wheaton College Students

OneWheaton, an organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) Wheaton College alumni, is featured in the documentary, "Let Your Light Shine."

A documentary in the works will feature the stories of Wheaton College alumni who felt alone and afraid as students at the evangelical Christian school, and their efforts to support current students who might be dealing with similar feelings. The documentary, "Let Your Light Shine," is about OneWheaton, the organization comprised of LGBTQ Wheaton College alumni and alumni supporters that formed last spring to support LGBTQ students after the college was ranked as one of the country's "least gay-friendly" schools and after a speaker at one of the college's chapel series, "Sexuality and Wholeness," supported gay celibacy. OneWheaton Homecoming Event Draws Hundreds

LGBTQ students, alumni and supporters gather at a church one town over.

A momentous occasion. That’s how one attendee of the OneWheaton Homecoming event in Glen Ellyn described an evening that marked a gathering of Wheaton students, alumni, family and friends who came out to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) community at the evangelical college—one town over. As the evening featuring Grammy-nominated Christian music artist and out lesbian Jennifer Knapp as well as OneWheaton panelists unfolded, supporters and the curious trickled in by ones, twos and groups to quickly pack the sanctuary at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn. LGBTQ Alumni of Wheaton College Host First Homecoming Event

OneWheaton announces homecoming event and concert in Glen Ellyn next week.

OneWheaton, an organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) alumni of Wheaton College, will host its first Homecoming event in Glen Ellyn next Friday, Oct. 7.  The event features Grammy-nominated Christian music artist and out lesbian Jennifer Knapp, who will perform a free concert for students at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 393 Main Street, Glen Ellyn. Since April, more than 600 LGBTQ alumni and allies of Wheaton College have voiced their support for gay students, telling them "it gets better." The group became public after members attended "Sexuality and Wholeness," a chapel talk at the college according to OneWheaton Spokeswoman Kristin Winn. CORRECTION: The event is Friday, Oct. 7, not Saturday
