Meet the uncontested Wheaton City Council candidates in the 2013 municipal election.
While City Council seats in all four of Wheaton's districts and one at-large seat were up for election this year, there is only one contested race. Four candidates are running for one City Council seat in the city's North District, including incumbent Phil Suess, Alberta Adamson, JT del Alcazar and Ted Rodgers. But the Council will still see a few changes in its lineup after the April 9 election. Former City Council candidate Frank Garcia does not qualify to run a write-in campaign for City Council, judge says.
The City of Wheaton on Thursday won its lawsuit against the DuPage County Election Commission and former City Council candidate Frank Garcia, confirming the city's decision that Garcia does not qualify to run for office. Wheaton's municipal electoral board ruled last month that Garcia was ineligible to run for City Council because he was not a registered voter in the city of Wheaton when he filed Dec. 26 and therefore not considered a Wheaton resident. The decision came after candidate John Prendiville filed an objection against Garcia because of his voter registration status and residency. A City Council candidate was removed from the ballot after an objection ruling over his voter registration status at the time of filing.
A municipal electoral board decided Monday to remove one At-Large City Council candidate's name from the ballot because he was not a registered voter in Wheaton when he filed as a candidate last month. Candidate John Prendiville earlier this month filed an objection against his opponent, Frank Garcia, after finding Garcia was not a registered voter in Wheaton, and therefore did not meet the qualifications for candidacy. According to the City of Wheaton, candidates must be registered voters of the City of Wheaton and must live within city limits for at least one year. John Prendiville said Wednesday his objection is that when his opponent, Frank Garcia, filed his nomination papers, he was not a registered voter in Wheaton and therefore does not qualify to run for office. Former Councilman and mayoral candidate John Prendiville will run for election to Jeanne Ives' seat on City Council in the 2013 municipal election.
Former Wheaton City Councilman and Mayoral candidate John Prendiville wants back in on local government. Prendiville will run for his former seat as Councilman At-Large, which will open as Jeanne Ives takes office as state representative in the 42nd district. “I enjoy being on (the) Council (and) have a lot to offer,” Prendiville said. “I think we need it—I think we need some strong leadership on (the) council.” Prendiville lost in the 2011 mayoral race to Mike Gresk, forfeiting his seat on the Council.
