DuPage Courts: 10-Year Sentence for Mail Fraud, Stolen Vehicle, Armed Robbery Indictment

Patch recaps major cases in DuPage and Kane counties last week.

Here's what happened in DuPage County courts last week: 1. Downers Grove: A Downers Grove man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to mail fraud and stolen vehicle charges. Joseph Mazzio, 42, received a three-year prison term for bilking a woman out of approximately $7,500 in 2011. He was charged in that case while already facing two sets of charges from 2010 relating to possession of stolen vehicles. Mazzio received seven years in prison on those counts. The judge gave Mazzio credit for a little more than seven months he's spent in DuPage County Jail. Mazzio arrived for processing this week at Stateville Correctional Center. 2. DuPage Courts: Judicial Candidate's Son Faces Drug Charges, Lisle Man Held for Child Pornography

DuPAGE: 1. Elmhurst: In an effort to avoid any potential conflicts, a special prosecutor has been appointed to handle the drug case of a DuPage County judicial candidate's son. Collin O'Shea, whose father is long-serving DuPage County Board member Patrick O'Shea, is charged with selling cocaine in March. During an April 11 hearing, Judge Ronald Kleeman agreed to appoint an appellate prosecutor to try the case instead of DuPage County prosecutors. The state's attorney's office acts as legal counsel to all county employees, including the county board. Patrick O'Shea is also on the November ballot to claim a seat on the bench in DuPage's 18th Judicial Circuit. Collin O'Shea returns to court May 16 when he is expected to be arraigned. 2. Lisle…
