DuPage Democrats Celebrate Big Wins, GOP Looks to Regroup

DuPage County—once a Republican stronghold—saw several Democratic victories on Election Day, leaving the GOP to question the impact of redistricting.

While Democrats across DuPage County celebrate several Election Day victories—including the re-election of President Barack Obama—the DuPage GOP is heading back to the drawing board. The votes in DuPage County, once known as a Republican stronghold, closely mirrored those of the nation Nov. 6, with 49.57 percent voting for President Barack Obama and 48.54 percent voting for Republican challenger Mitt Romney, according to unofficial results. In 2008, 54.72 percent of DuPage County voters supported Obama, while 43.93 percent cast their vote for Sen. John McCain. Debt Ceiling on the Minds of Many at DuPage County Fair

Workers at the DuPage Democrats and DuPage Republicans booths, and residents who stop by, speak their piece about the battle on Capitol Hill as Tuesday's deadline to raise the debt ceiling looms.

Booths promoting the DuPage Republican and DuPage Democratic parties at the County Fair’s Exhibition Building in Wheaton are situated at opposite ends of the building this weekend during the county fair. The distance between these booths can be a metaphor to illustrate how far apart both political parties have been on Capitol Hill in regard to reaching an accord that would extend the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling. The stalemate continued Saturday. Late Friday afternoon, the House of Representatives passed Speaker John A. Boehner's bill to raise the debt limit and reduce the deficit.
