The National Weather Service has issued the flash flood warning for urban areas and small streams in DuPage County, along with areas around Chicagoland. Updated: 11:05 a.m. From the City of Wheaton All City of Wheaton emergency and Public Works crews are currently out in the community addressing traffic and flooding. This is an ongoing situation that the City is addressing and will continue to address as weather develops. Many roads are closed due to flooding. Please do not attempt to drive through flooded areas. County officials said that the amount of traffic caught them by surprise and hampered the ability of the public to access election results.
Officials for DuPage County are saying that the influx of traffic to their election results website, which crashed the page between 8 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, has been a wake-up call to necessary improvements, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, the problem was caused when the available bandwidth was exceeded; page views peaked at 15,000 within a few minutes, 5,000 more than the peak in the 2012 elections. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin on Friday announced veteran prosecutor Gregory Vaci has joined the State’s Attorney’s Office as the new Chief of the Civil Bureau. As Chief, Vaci will supervise 16 attorneys and support staff responsible for representing DuPage County Government and all of its elected officers in their official capacities, according to a news release from the State's Attorney's Office. But moderate rankings in two other categories mean that the county ranks only sixth healthiest overall in the state, a new report shows.
DuPage County is the sixth healthiest of Illinois’ 102 counties and ranks first in three categories, according to a national study released on Wednesday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI). The study found that DuPage has the lowest rate of premature death, the best heath behaviors and the best clinical care of any county in Illinois. If you've noticed lately that Patch has been overrun with tragic stories about people being killed by trains along Metra's Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway, it's not because we just started reporting them—it's because there have been three in the past two weeks within a span of just a few commuter stops. First, it happened in Westmont on March 7, then in Hinsdale on March 18 and in Downers Grove on March 19. All three incidents involved a single person; all three were fatal, all three are still under investigation and none have been officially established as accidents or self-inflicted. School is out in honor of President’s Day and, in addition, some government offices are closed today. In DuPage County the following offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 18. The DuPage County Jack T. Knuepfer Administration Building, located at 421 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton, will be closed Monday, Feb. 18. County departments and services will reopen at their regular times on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The U.S. Postal Service will observe the federal holiday with post offices closed and no mail delivery or retail service. A man died after hitting a tree early Wednesday morning on Park Boulevard.
A man died after hitting a tree on Park Boulevard near Glen Ellyn early Wednesday morning. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the single car accident that was reported at approximately 7:25 this morning on Park Boulevard, south of Butterfield Road in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, according to a press release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, was traveling southbound on Park Blvd towards Route 53, when it and its sole occupant left the roadway and struck a tree killing the male driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.
