WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 Police charged Uriel A. Ambrosio, 21, of the 1700 block of Woodcutter Lane in Wheaton with possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended. Ambrosio was driving a red 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe at 4:25 p.m. on the 1700 block of South Wiesbrook Road when police initiated a traffic stop. He was booked at the Wheaton Police Department and was released later that day. TUESDAY, MAY 7 MONDAY, MAY 6 Police charged Laney N. THURSDAY, MAY 2 MONDAY, APRIL 29 Police charged Caitlin R. Azarela, 18, of the 1500 block of South Prospect Avenue in Wheaton with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested at 4:08 p.m. near the intersection of Buena Vista and Lorraine. Then she was released from the scene. SUNDAY, APRIL 21 Glen Ellyn police charged Shanikwa Bailey, 25, of the 900 block of South Lorraine Road in Wheaton with marijuana possession, possession of a controlled substance and illegal liquor transportation. Sheriff: 42 Marijuana Plants Found in Bloomingdale Home

A man is charged with production or possession of more than 20, less than 50, marijuana plants.

A Bloomingdale man is charged with production or possession of more than 20 marijuana plants, DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba announced Thursday. Detectives on Wednesday arrested Joseph Angelo, 29, after officials followed an anonymous tip he was operating a sophisticated cannabis growing operation inside the residence, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Officials found 42 mature plants and a number of juvenile plants in the basement of the home, along with growing equipment and other drug paraphernalia.    Angelo was booked into the DuPage County Jail and was released after he posted 10 percent of his $20,000.00 bond. $500K in Drugs Found During Traffic Stop: Sheriff

A Calumet City man is held on $1 million bond after officials found $500,000 in cocaine during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

A Calumet City man is being held in DuPage County Jail on $1 million bond after officials found $500,000 in drugs in his car during a traffic stop in Bloomingdale Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. A sheriff's deputy stopped Jesus Gonzalez-Carrera, 25, about 3:40 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Army Trail Road and Springfield Drive in Bloomingdale. Police to Host Forum on Suburban Heroin Epidemic

Experts including DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin will share their knowledge on the growing use of heroin in the suburbs at a Feb. 4 forum.

The Wheaton Police Department will host a forum on the growing epidemic of heroin use in the suburbs Monday, Feb. 4, to connect the community with local law enforcement, the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office and experts in the field. DuPage County State's Attorney Bob Berlin, Claudia Evenson, director of outreach services for Rosecrance Health Network, John Roberts, Co-founder of the Heroin Epidemic Relief Organization (HERO), and Kathleen Burke, CEO Robert Crown Center for Health Education will attend the forum, to share their knowledge of heroin use.  Berlin has served as the DuPage County State’s Attorney since December 14, 2010. Heroin Use in DuPage County an 'Epidemic,' State's Attorney Says

District 86 hosted a drug symposium on Nov. 7 at Hinsdale South High School that featured several speakers, including DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin, with first-hand knowledge of the dangers of heroin in the suburbs today.

Thirty deaths from heroin overdose have occurred in DuPage County during the last 12 months, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said during an event at Hinsdale South last week. “This is a real epidemic that we’re faced with,” Berlin said. The county’s top prosecutor was one of several speakers who took to the microphone in Darien on Nov. 7 to talk about the prevalence and dangers of heroin at Hinsdale Township High School District 86’s Drug Awareness Symposium.
