N.E.W. 200 Foundation Honors Three Distinguished Teachers

Distinguished Teacher Awards recognize teachers in District 200 who go above and beyond the call of duty for their students.

The N.E.W. 200 Foundation, a nonprofit that works on funding and initiatives for District 200 students and teachers, on Wednesday honored three District 200 teachers with its annual Distinguished Teacher Awards. This year, organization honored Deanna Bero, a second grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School; Heidi Galassi, a seventh grade math teacher at Edison Middle School; and Jon Nowortya, a music teacher and marching band coach at Wheaton North High School.  Students and parents of students who are currently enrolled in District 200 schools submit nominations for teachers they believe have gone above and beyond the “call of duty,” according to a news release from District 200. District 200, Teachers Reach Tentative 3-Year Agreement

Teacher organization representing about 1,000 District 200 teachers reaches tentative three-year agreement with the district. The Board of Education will vote to approve the agreement Wednesday.

The Wheaton Warrenville Education Association (WWEA) and Community Unit School District 200 have reached a tentative three-year agreement, according to a District 200 press release. The WWEA, which represents approximately 1,000 certified teachers, presented the tentative agreement to their membership and ratified it last week.   The district and WWEA started the bargaining process in January. The agreement provides for a balanced budget, based on revenue projections, according to the District 200 website. The agreement also contains a limited reopener memorandum to address the impact of modifications in the state pension law.
