Wheaton North ended Wheaton Warrenville South's football season Friday, with a 23-13 win.
The Wheaton North Falcons beat the Wheaton Warrenville South Tigers 23-13 Friday, ending a ten-year streak of playoff appearances for the Tigers, and of Tiger victories in the annual cross-town matchup. North (8-1, 6-1) scored their 23 points in the first half. North quarterback John Peltz threw a touchdown pass to Kaelen Bradford and two to Tom Colletti. He got a safety when JD Marconi tackled South's punter in his end zone after a snap, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Tigers (4-5, 4-3) scored two touchdowns in the third quarter. North stopped South with a sack early in the fourth quarter, followed by a North drive that ended the game, according to the Tribune. The No. 1-in-state Tigers out-serve and out-spike the Lions en route to a 25-14, 25-17 victory.
Lyons Township volleyball coach Joann Pyritz already led one Lions team to an upset over a No. 1 state team this school year—but the repeat wasn’t meant to be. Wheaton Warrenville South boys volleyball team (35-2), Illinois' current no. 1 team, will compete against Glenbard East in the sectional semifinals Friday after defeating the LT Lions (22-15), 25-14, 25-17 on Monday night at York High School. “This is a tough sectional,” said Pyritz. “We played pretty well last night [narrowly defeating Waubonsie Valley in three games.] We’d have liked to come out with a little better effort tonight, but that’s just the way it went.” The high-flying Tigers battered down the Lyons serve-receive with powerful jump serves, forcing LT setter Jack Gouty …

Wheaton North knocks off Naperville North with a late stand in a dramatic DuPage Valley football showdown.
It was too little, too late for a Naperville North offense trying desperately to draw even in the waning seconds at Wheaton North on yesterday, Friday, Oct. 15 at Wheaton North. After watching its 7-0 halftime lead turn into a 14-7 fourth-quarter deficit, Naperville North rode the arm of quarterback Matt LaCosse down to the Falcons' 6-yard line with 13.2 seconds left. Three straight incompletions left the visitors out of chances while Wheaton North (6-2, 4-2) solidified its playoff standing with a second comeback win over a Naperville school. "It was just too late. We've got to play better earlier on," Huskies coach Sean Drendel said after the 14-7 loss dropped his team to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in DuPage Valley play. "Our kids played hard, …

Glenbard North beat Wheaton Warrenville South in a last minute goal yesterday, Tuesday, Oct. 5, giving the Tigers a 0-4 in the DVC.
Wheaton Warrenville South lost 1-0 to Glenbard North on a penalty kick in the final minute of Tuesday's senior night match at Red Grange Field. The Tigers (6-9-2, 0-4 DuPage Valley Conference) were defending their goal when sophomore goalkeeper Tim Reinders said there was a mistake in the middle. Junior defender Will Huesing tried to clear the ball in the box, but was given a yellow card on holding Glenbard North senior forward Eric Dailly. Dailly then had a penalty kick where Reinders had to defend the net himself. Dailly then rocketed the ball left, just out of Reinders' reach, for the Panthers' (6-4-5, 2-2-1 DVC) 1-0 lead. "The G-rated version was, 'Oh crap! I'm going to be screwed,' because it is a difficult shot," Reinders said of …

Falcons ride junior Sam Otto's 87 to a 357 at Bartlett Hills Thursday.
BARTLETT—Wheaton North's boys golf team knew it was out of contention for the team title at the DuPage Valley Conference meet at Bartlett Hills yesterday, Thursday, Sept. 30, but the Falcons still wanted to climb up in the standings. Despite shooting a high total of 357, the Falcons were able to break a deadlock with Glenbard North to finish sixth in the final DVC standings. "We were looking at coming in and seeing how far we could move up," Wheaton North coach Mike Pribaz said. "If we played better, we could have moved up more. To move up at all is good. I'm disappointed in the score. All of these guys, I know they can shoot better, but probably everybody could say that." Junior Sam Otto, the Falcons' No. 1 golfer, struggled early. He …
