What Are District 200 Schools' Capital Development Needs?

See what District 200 needs to do to improve its buildings, broken down by cost and school.

As the District 200 board of education makes plans to rebuild Jefferson Early Childhood Center, staff and officials will consider other needs in the district they've identified.  The State of Illinois last spring paid the district $14.4 million for capital development projects. The district has $11.9 remaining to address its needs after spending more than $2 million on a technology lease. Here are the needs at District 200 schools, from the highest to lowest costs. Wheaton Warrenville South High School: $1,753,908 Needs: Walk path (faculty lot to baseball field), walk path from tennis court, asphalt drive (circle drive, northeast, Tiger Trail), stadium grandstand repairs, baseball press box Johnson Elementary School: $1,710,070  Needs: …

District 200 Survey Responders Rate Education, District Communications and Management of Finances

Respondents in a District 200 survey on plans to rebuild Jefferson Early Childhood Center gave ratings to various district operations, including communication, finances and quality of education.

According to the report, stakeholders “overwhelmingly approved” the district’s quality of education and student experience. However, respondents indicated there is room for improvement in stakeholder perceptions of the district’s communication and management of district finances. Respondents indicated they didn’t feel they had enough information to make an informed decision about all quality areas in the district.  While respondents agreed with the board’s assessment of facilities needing improvements, they were also upset with recent district financial decisions, including the sale of the Hubble property and a perceived emphasis on building new facilities instead of maintaining existing facilities, according to the report. Respondents who…

Now if the building costs $29,000,000. That is $5,000 per student per year - just …   more ›

Jefferson Survey Responders Like Cheapest Option for New School

More than a third of survey responders in District 200 said they'd support the least expensive proposed plan for a new Jefferson facility.

Taxpayers in District 200 would support a $29.4 million plan to rebuild the Jefferson Early Childhood Center and move the district's administrative offices to the new building, according to results of a community survey.  John Gatta, an ECRA, Inc. consultant hired by District 200 told board members Wednesday that 1,035 people responded to the survey. He said survey results show taxpayers support high-quality education and want to see priority placed on instructional expenses. He said there is a lack of support for renovation of administrative facilities. Of the 1,035 responders, 34 percent said they supported 'Concept 2'—relocation of the district's main office, a new Jefferson site and renovation of the School Services Center (SSC) for …

I completed this survey, which was skewed to get the answers the Board wanted. There was no option for doing nothing, only spending yet more money that residents of D200 don't have. I agree with JanS above ~ there are much more cost efficient ways to educate these children. I wish the Board would concentrate more on bringing our middle students' test scores up instead of constantly focusing on …   more ›
