The City of Wheaton Planning and Zoning Board will consider Morningside Equities' application for a Planned Unit Development approval to build a 306-unit apartment complex downtown.
Residents will have an opportunity to speak publicly about a proposed development at 218 Wesley Street in downtown Wheaton at the 7 p.m. Planning and Zoning Board meeting Tuesday, Jan. 24 at City Hall. Developer Morningside Equities Inc. has submitted an application for a Planned Unit Development (PUD) approval to allow the construction of a six-story, 306-unit apartment complex on a vacant downtown lot bounded by, Wesley, Scott, Front and Cross streets, according to a city memo. The public may make a statement at the hearing or submit comments in writing prior to the hearing. About 100 residents attend a presentation of the plans for the redevelopment of the old Hubble school site.
Developers of the old Hubble school property on Saturday presented plans for the site’s redevelopment to an audience of about 100 residents at the DuPage County Historical Museum in Wheaton, a few weeks before a public hearing and presentation to City Council. Chad Jones, CFO of Bradford Equities, the development firm that purchased the 27-acre property from Community Unit School District 200 in June, said the company always tries to hear from neighbors of its developments early into a project to field questions and feedback. Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk talks strategy at annual State of the City Address, says Hubble development has mobilized other projects.
Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk on Thursday delivered his annual State of the City Address to outline the city’s goals, including plans to establish a strategic economic development plan by 2013. Gresk said the city plans to reduce retail vacancies in Wheaton and increase net property values by 2015, and establish a strategic economic development plan for downtown by January 1, 2013 and a strategic economic development plan for all of Wheaton by July 1, 2013. Dallas-based company Studio Movie Grill will begin work on the future cinema-eatery in the next two weeks after plan approval from city.
Wheaton City Council Monday approved a change to the planned unit development (PUD) for Studio Movie Grill (SMG), the dine-in movie theater that will open at 301 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton this year. Dave Olson, director of construction and project management for SMG told Council Monday he plans to begin interior demolition work within the next two weeks, and more intensive work by the second week of February. After an estimated three-month project he said he expects to have the grand opening late in the second quarter. The Dallas-based company, SMG, will renovate the former Linens ‘N Things building, a 30,000-square-foot space into a movie theater and restaurant.
