Adopt Me! Missy and Anastacia Seek Purrfect Homes

Every week Patch will share information on pets waiting for homes at area animal shelters.

This week we bring you two pets looking for homes at DuPage County Animal Care and Control. We welcome other animal shelters to contact us to participate in this weekly column. To participate, contact Glen Ellyn Local Editor Mary Ann Lopez. Anastacia is a 2-1/2 year old domestic shorthair who lost her home because of allergies. She is a sweet and petite cat with big green eyes. She is very stressed here and fearful of the other cats, so she stays in her cage where she feels safe. She doesn't have much of an appetite and is sleeping a lot. But she happily wakes up when someone wants to pet her. Petting is one of Anastacia’s favorite things. Or is it people? Actually it's both! She’s very playful and friendly. Cute, cuddly and cheerful too! …

Furry Friends Gather for Fun and Festivities

The Friends Fur-Ever Festival brought dog owners, potential owners, beloved pets and potential new family members out for a canine center stage event.

Take two. A little rain could not stop the Friends Fur-Ever Festival from taking place on its rescheduled date Saturday, Sept. 18. Dogs and their people gathered at the Dupage County Animal Care and Control grounds and waited out the early rain to kick off the event with a one-mile dog walk, led by Mayor Michael J. Gresk and his Beagle, Nikko. Mayor Gresk rescued Nikko from DCACC three years ago. The DCACC hosted its first annual Friends Fur-Ever Festival, will replace the yearly multi-shelter expo. Over 20 shelters were present, representing 100s of animals looking for new homes.  "There are thousands of animals who need to be adopted every year." said Kristie Lecaros coordinator of the Friends of the DCACC Foundation.
