In 1861 Jonathan Blanchard, the first president of Wheaton College, founded College Church, then known as the…More First Church of Christ in Wheaton. Affiliated with the Congregational Association of Illinois, the church was public about its opposition to slavery, liquor, secret societies, tobacco, drug use, dancing, card games and theater attendance, and it played a role in banning the sale of alcohol in Wheaton. In 1878, reorganization led to the church's new name: the College Church of Christ. It wasn't until 1963 that its current name, College Church, was established.
