A group of skateboarders celebrate their first year of a club that took funding from the Wheaton Firefighters Union, a grant from the DuPage County State's Attorney and help from the Wheaton Park District to operate.
The Franklin Skate Club celebrated its inaugural year skateboarding at the Clocktower Commons skate park Tuesday. Last fall, a Franklin Middle School instructional aide formed the club when student surveys showed skateboarding was a club kids wanted as an after school activity, said club founder, Paul Boucher. Boucher, the once-avid skateboarder, partnered with Franklin’s Vice Principal Joe Kish to secure the district’s permission and outside funding for the club. With a donation from the Wheaton Firefighters Union and a Drug Forfeiture grant from the DuPage County State’s Attorney, Kish and Boucher were able to buy safety equipment, some boards and educational items for the club. …

Former employee cites harassment by supervisor and rights violation in claims against college.
A former College of DuPage grant writer has sued the school on claims officials fired her because of medical problems and as an act of retaliation, according to court records. Jennifer Wittstock, who filed suit last month, worked at the school from May 2010 until March 2011. During that time, she endured harassment and discriminatory actions by a supervisor. Wittstock, of Oswego, also contends a congenital disease she has had since birth qualifies her for protection from an unjust employment termination under the Illinois Human Rights Act. “My life and the lives of my family have been tremendously affected by the actions of the college’s officials,” Wittstock stated in an email. “I am relieved I will have the opportunity to present …

We share that public safety priority with COD as we work on a compromise plan that will …

Enrollment for new students from a Carol Stream apartment complex is capped at Hawthorne Elementary School for the 2012-13 school year.
Due to increased enrollment, Hawthorne Elementary School will add a new kindergarten classroom for the 2012-13 school year, and send new students from a Carol Stream apartment complex to Pleasant Hill Elementary School. District 200 Superintendent Dr. Brian Harris said at a Wednesday board meeting as a "one-year solution" to the school's increased enrollment, any students from the Covered Bridge apartments in Carol Stream who enroll after May 10 would attend Pleasant Hill. All current students will stay, and new students with siblings at Hawthorne will also go to Hawthorne. "Families will not be split up," he said. Harris said the Covered Bridge apartments were chosen for the change because there are already bus routes to other elementary …
Zoning Board of Appeal commissioners say current proposal needs sharpening.
