It is O'Connor. It is spelled wrong I the article.
Jen April 23, 2014 at 07:11 am
I think Mark was the man who was yelling for the unconscious drowning victim to stand up.
Lisa April 23, 2014 at 07:20 am
Thanks, Jen - How do you know that O'Connor, not Stankus, pulled the man to safety? ApparentlyRead More Patch is basing its report on information provided in an article by the Daily Herald, which seems like questionable journalism, but I know Patch is severely short-handed after sweeping layoffs (not an excuse, but just an explanation). Also, Patch's report has a typo ("... when they say the tragic incident unfold, according to the Daily Herald"), since it should say "unfolded." Typos aside, the bigger issue is why Patch didn't simply interview Stankus rather than rely on a competitor's article.

Very sad. It seems like a really bad idea have kayaking in such a dangerous area.
Fox River April 22, 2014 at 01:04 pm
Is having a launch several yards ABOVE a dam really a good idea? It takes a lot of strength andRead More experience to paddle a tandem kayak in current. The cubic feet per second the day of this accident was about double what most would consider "comfortable" for paddling. These kayakers weren't even able to get their bearings with this rental before the tragedy happened.
Karla April 21, 2014 at 01:42 pm
No it doesn't make sense.. my husband is a kayaker and would never launch there with the river theRead More way it is right there. He is upset with himself that he didn't speak up and tell them not to launch there. He saw they were with the kayak rental company and chose not to say anything. He and his buddy are still upset These guys who rented seemed very inexperienced. My heart goes out to their families as well as kayak company operator.... he was truly devastated and almost appeared in shock. .

Why is there a Launch that Close to Dam ? I saw this morning, there are NO signs by that Launch toRead More indicate Strong current or Dam. If you are from out of town, and not experienced this is a Deadly Situation.

Did you see the Drew Peterson movie? It portrayed Hosey's office as a gleaming, modern andRead More bustling. As opposed to the stained drop-ceiling and general bleakness. Just let the Patch be the joke it always has been.
Jacob Matthews April 21, 2014 at 08:48 am
Leave it to the Patch to embellish Comedy Central as a business to be respected.
Beth Lopez April 16, 2014 at 10:14 am
Patch - could you please add this to the Darien Patch site? It pertains more to that area and maybeRead More someone might know something.

This makes as much sense as charging someone with murder if you sell them a gun and they commitRead More suicide. And do you think people will call an ambulance to help someone that has overdosed, or get out of there before they are charged with murder?
Geneva Dad April 7, 2014 at 01:10 pm
So, if someone buys alcohol and drinks it with their friends and one of their friends dies fromRead More alcohol poisoning, could that someone that bought and shared the alcohol be charged with alcohol induced homicide?
