The DuPage County Sheriff's Office, headed by Chief John Zaruba, is made up of the Corrections Bureau, the Law Enforcement Bureau and the Administrative Bureau. The Sheriff's Office also operates as the police department for more than 30 unincorporated towns in DuPage County, including unincorporated Wheaton. Sheriff Zaruba was appointed in 1997 and elected to the office in 1998, 2002 and 2006. The county jail, which holds approximately 800 inmates on an average day, is also located at the Sheriff's office.
