Central DuPage Hospital (CDH) is a general hospital and Level II Trauma Center that was rated one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the United States by Thomson Reuters from 2006 - 2009. CDH first opened its doors in 1964 with a 113-bed facility that grew to 233 in 1970 and again to 345 in 1976. There are now 313 rooms and more than 1,000 physicians, up from the original 66 physicians in 1964.With its 4,000 employees and advanced cancer center, CDH is able to offer services typically available only in Chicago. It earned its first of accreditations from the College of American Pathologists in the 1960s and was the site for the first open heart surgery in the county in the 1970s. In 1979, the Intensive Care Unit opened, the first in DuPage County.
