Patch Whiz Kid: Lauren Patton

Each week Patch finds a local kids in the community to spotlight.

Name: Lauren Patton

Age: 17

School: Wheaton Warrenville South High School

Key to Awesomeness: Lauren Patton has a big heart, dedicating her time to volunteering and school activities. She is a senior at Wheaton Warrenville South High School this year. She is involved in the Student Council and plays clarinet in the Marching Band. She has played the clarinet for eight years, starting in fifth grade. She is also a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society.

Outside of school, Patton volunteers at the DuPage Animal Shelter. She describes the job as, "walking dogs, playing with cats and hanging out with rabbits.

"It's a good volunteering job. I like being with the animals... It's a nice way of doing something good in the community," she said.

Patton also volunteers with CASA DuPage events with her mother, Director Karen Patton. "I help out whenever they need me," she explained.

Patton is currently taking on the task of applying to colleges. Her number one choice is Washington University in St. Louis, but she is also applying to Northwestern, the University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin. She plans to major in psychology.
