DuPage Habitat Partners with DuPage Homeownership Center

The two nonprofits celebrate a new combined office space in Wheaton.

This Spring, DuPage Habitat for Humanity (DHFH) and DuPage Homeownership Center (DHOC) were given the keys to their newly conjoined office doors in Wheaton. On May 9, the two non-profit organizations announced their collaboration with a grand opening celebration. Community figures including Mayor Michael Gresk and Representative Judy Biggert also celebrated at the ribbon cutting event.

Funded by a grant from DuPage County, DHOC and DHFH purchased a building for combined office space in Wheaton at 1600 Roosevelt Road to attempt to increase homeownership opportunities in DuPage County. The shared offices provide one-stop shopping for many low-income clients seeking to purchase an affordable home.

The two organizations hope their partnership will set a prime example for future collaborations and the power of strategic partnerships to better serve the community. DHOC provides financial literacy, pre-purchase counseling, and education to each DHFH family.  DHFH offers Home Repair and Maintenance classes for DHOC clients, as well as the opportunity to apply for a DHFH home and 0% interest mortgage.

To celebrate, DHFH and DHOC hosted a grand opening May 9 at their new location. Representative Judy Biggert, Mayor Michael Gresk, and Director of DuPage County Human Services, Mary Keating, all came together to praise the newfound partnership.

“In these tight economic times, it's wonderful to see two of DuPage's best non-profits working together creatively to support families in our community," said Biggert, who chairs the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing, and Community Opportunity. "This is a great partnership and great new location.  I look forward to working with DHFH and DHOC in their efforts to help local families overcome obstacles to stable, secure housing."
