Stuff-A-Truck and See a Free Movie

You can see a free movie and help fight hunger in DuPage.

To coincide with Make a Difference Day on October 27, the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a month long city-wide food drive for People’s Resource Center.

The Studio Movie Grill at 301 Rice Lake Square in Wheaton is on board too. Thursday, October 25 it’s hosting “Films for Food”.  Bring food donations of nutritious food items for the Stuff-A-Truck Food Drive benefiting People's Resource Center and receive 1 free movie ticket for that day.

On Saturday, October 27, the Chamber will collect all the donations and “Stuff-A-Truck” with food on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), 201 E. Loop Road in Wheaton. Last year, the Stuff-A-Truck event collected 10,000 pounds – or four truckloads – of food for hungry neighbors in DuPage County. The city of Wheaton was named a 2010 National City Award Winner by USA Weekend Magazine, due in part to the success of “Stuff-A-Truck.”

The day will culminate with the “Thanks Tons” festival from 12:30 – 3:30 at IIT. The free festival will feature music, a Halloween costume contest, trick or treating, and games and prizes from Wheaton Chamber businesses. “Thanks Tons” is a way of thanking all the people in Wheaton for ‘making a difference’ in the community.

“We moved locations due to the tear down of Wheaton Central/Hubble this year, but IIT has a perfect lawn for our festival,” said Laurie Swanson Oberhelman, the Stuff-A-Truck chairperson. “We’ll have the Showalter climbing wall again this year and we’ll be bringing the Stuff-A-Truck mascot who needs a name.” [People can go to www.wheatonchamber.com and vote for their favorite name and it will be announced at the event.] “What a fun way to help feed the hungry.  I can’t wait for the fun to begin.”
