What's Happening at PRC

Recently, a former client stopped in at our Westmont location and spoke to Hank, the food service supervisor. She told him that she appreciated everything we did for her and her family, and said he “treated her with great kindness.” At that point, she pulled out her checkbook to write a donation. She told Hank she had just won a lottery and gave him a check for $2,000! To say he was surprised is an understatement. We are so grateful for this gift.

One of our regular volunteers brought her teenage grandson to work in the food pantry every Wednesday morning this past summer. He told his grandma that at first he was not happy getting up early on Wednesdays, but his time at the pantry was one of the best experiences he ever had and was looking forward to returning.

Mid-October, the PRC Wheaton location will be giving away Halloween costumes during Clothes Closet hours. Ghosts and goblins needing a costume can come here and get all spooked up for trick or treating. If you’ve got some costumes you’d like to donate, bring them to 201 S. Naperville Road M-F between 9am – 4pm.

Don’t forget – the month of October there is a city-wide food drive happening for PRC in Wheaton. You can bring your donations to local businesses and schools, or drop them off at IIT (201 East Loop Road) on Saturday, October 27, Make a Difference Day.  The Wheaton Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring “Stuff-A-Truck” and will “stuff” park district trucks with all the donations and deliver them to PRC.  From 12:30 pm – 3:30pm on October 27, there will also be a free “Thanks Tons” festival at IIT. Bring the family for fun, food and surprises!
