Wheaton's New Movie Theater Opens Friday

Studio Movie Grill opens in Wheaton Friday, Jun. 8, and there are a couple ways you can go to the movies for free.

, a nine-screen movie theater and restaurant opens in Wheaton on Friday, Jun. 8.

The theater will feature first-run movie showings in the 40,000-square-foot, former Linens 'N Things and movie theater building at 301 Rice Lake Square.

In addition to the free movie passes the theater is offering for its Grand Opening, anyone who donates a nonperishable food item for the "Cans Film Festival" will receive a free ticket for any showing on opening day.

Moviegoers can also win passes to a VIP screening of Rock of Ages by entering our contest with a photo of a time you felt like a rock star.

The theater will celebrate its opening Friday with a Wheaton Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony. Wheaton Mayor Mike Gresk and SMG Founder Brian Schultz will lead the ceremony with members of the at 5:30 p.m.

Studio Movie Grill operates eight other locations in Texas, Georgia and Arizona, according to a Wheaton city staff memo. The Wheaton location will also include a lounge to accommodate about 36 people.

The theater will also feature alternate programming, including the Horror series, "SMG With a Twist," Speaker series, Girls Night Out series and $1 Classics series.

Patch will host the , starting with the $1 showing of "Dirty Dancing" on Wednesday, Jun. 13!
