Wheaton Native Qualifies for 112th U.S. Open

Wheaton native Kevin Streelman qualifies for the U.S. Open after tying for third at the Columbus Sectional on Monday.

Wheaton native Kevin Streelman will tee off at the 112th U.S. Open golf championship later this month, after he tied for third place at the Columbus sectional qualifier on Monday, according to the Golf Channel website.

Streelman, 33, finished -4 with a total score of 137, shooting a par 71 in the first round and 66 in the second at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course, the Golf Channel reports.

A 1997 graduate of and 2001 graduate of Duke University, Streelman turned pro in 2001. He earned his PGA Tour card in 2007, after finishing 14th in the PGA Tour qualifying tournament, according to his website. He now lives in Scottsdale, AZ with his wife.

He ranks 146th in official world golf rankings and has a scoring average of 71.49.

The 112th U.S. Open begins Monday, June 11 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
