DuPage County in Post-Storm "Emergency" Mode

Traffic signals in DuPage County are still out after Sunday's storm. Crews work to restore power.

The DuPage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management continues to coordinate storm damage recovery efforts today, according to a press release from DuPage County.

“Residents’ safety is our main priority and we continue to coordinate recovery efforts between municipalities, long-term care facilities, Commonwealth Edison and the State of Illinois,” DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said in a statement.

Status of County Offices

The majority of DuPage County offices re-opened for business this morning. However, the DuPage County Family Center and are closed today due to power outages. Both departments anticipate re-opening on Thursday, July 5. In the meantime, Communicable Disease, Environmental Health Services and select Behavior Services, such as the CRISIS line, are operational at the Health Department.

Traffic Signal Outages

The County’s Department of Transportation reports that six traffic signals are still without power at the following intersections:

  • Jewell Road and Pleasant Hill Road;
  • Jewell Road and Gary Avenue;
  • Geneva Road and Geneva Crossing;
  • Geneva Road and President Street;
  • Geneva Road and Western Avenue; and
  • Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn Road and St. Charles Road, also known as Five Corners.

The traffic lights will be functional once power is restored in those areas.

In addition, there may be other traffic lights that are without power located throughout the County. Those lights would fall under the jurisdiction of local municipalities and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Well-being Checks

DuPage County Community Services and Department of Emergency Management continue to coordinate well-being checks through local municipalities on senior citizens and residents who have access and functional needs.

Power Outages Continue

ComEd reports that service is expected to be restored to the majority of customers on Wednesday. However, isolated, smaller areas could take up to Thursday, July 5, to be restored.

As of 8:30 a.m. this morning, ComEd reported 37,302 customers still do not have power. To view a list of outages organized by municipality, visit www.ProtectDuPage.org.

Since the storm, ComEd has been operating a Joint Operating Center in the County’s Office of Homeland Security to better coordinate response and improve customer service. For example public safety entities such as hospitals, long-term care centers in addition to police and fire have been made a priority on ComEd’s restoration list.
