WWS, Benet Girls Runners Qualify for State Meet

The Wheaton Warrenville South and Benet Academy girls cross country teams will compete in the state meet this Saturday.

The and Benet Academy girls cross country teams qualified for the Class 3A state meet next weekend in the sectional meet hosted by Saturday.

Wheaton Warrenville South finished in 2nd place with an average runner time of 17:48.2 and 80 points, with individuals who placed 5th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 23rd, 31st and 36th.

Benet Academy placed 5th overall, with an average runner time of 18.28.4. Benet runners finished 18th, 26th, 30th, 37th, 75th, 83rd and 99th, totaling 186 points as a team.

McKenna Kiple, a WWS junior, finished 5th with a time of 17:35.9. Junior Kayla Kightlinger finished 16th with a time of 17:46.3, a second before teammate Hope Schmelzle, who came in at 17:47.4.

Benet Academy's Audrey Blazek followed at 17:47.5 for 18th place.

The teams will compete in the state meet in Peoria Saturday, Nov. 5.
